NWSL Week 17: Playoff Push!

Though the Boston Breakers just played on Sunday, defeating FC Kansas City in Kansas City and grabbing their first away win since July 2014 (!), they're first up this week hosting the full strength Houston Dash at 8PM on Wednesday. Carli Lloyd will be back with the Dash, rejoining Morgan Brian for the visit to New England. Then, the Breakers travel to Portland for a clash against the Thorns on Sunday. The Dash head home to host the Orlando Pride on Saturday, so it's a busy stretch of WoSo in the NWSL. We love it!

The playoff push is on, and Washington, Portland, Chicago and Western NY own the top four spots at the moment. What will change by next Sunday night? Pay your internet bill and watch all 6 games this week.

Bold Predictions: I nailed it last week, except Thorns v Reign and Red Stars v Sky Blue, which I bombed royally. Royally. But it's a glass far more than just half full, filled to the brim with a 2nd consecutive Breakers win.

Houston Dash at Boston Breakers

Wednesday at 8:00PM Eastern

Bold Prediction: I'm going to go shameless homer here, despite the renewed strength of the Dash. The combination of Carli Lloyd, Morgan Brian, Janine Beckie, Kealia Ohai and Rachel Daly is intimidating, but Boston has something going on, and I don't think they'll take any crap from the visitors. Boston 2-1 Dash. Plus, there is a secret weapon. Kyah Simon's boots:

WNY Flash at Washington Spirit

Saturday at 7:00PM Eastern

Bold Prediction: JoHawks Rising. The Spirit look good and protect their home field, 2-1.

Orlando Pride at Houston Dash

Saturday at 8:30PM Eastern

Bold Prediction: I like the Dash at home, although new Pride forward Lisa De Vanna should cause some problems combining with Alex Morgan to attack a Dash back line that may still be missing Allysha Chapman (or not; she's been smack-tweeting about beating the Breakers on Wednesday, so maybe she's got some of Fishlock's Dragon Blood and has healed completely from the Olympics). I think Carli goes off at home. 3-1 Dash.

Sky Blue FC at FC Kansas City

Sunday at 6:00PM Eastern

Bold Prediction: Oh how the mighty have fallen. Swept by the bottom-of-the-table Boston Breakers this season, FC Kansas City plays hard but hasn't been able to overcome their roster turnover. Sky Blue looks to be without Kelley O'Hara after she was tackled recklessly in stoppage time last weekend. Sky Blue needs three points to stay alive in the playoff race, but I'm not sure Becky and the Blues will be in an accommodating mood. Draw. 2-2.

Boston Breakers at Portland Thorns

Sunday at 7:00PM Eastern

Bold Prediction: I'm going for broke. It's all Breakers, all the time until the end of the year. I think the Thorns probably win this one, but I'll take an upset. 2-1 Boston (subject to revision based on lineups)!

Seattle Reign at Chicago Red Stars

Sunday at 7:00PM Eastern

Bold Prediction: Both of these teams need the points. I think the Reign pulls it together to get a 1-0 win, now that they know for sure that Hope Solo won't be with them for the rest of the year. I'm going to pretend like the possibility that she's done forever isn't really a possibility. For now.
